Personal page cut back to two lines
Owner: “i don’t really like talking about this.” The profile essay is off the page.
On the door. /Users/n1/Projects/llm-knowledge-base/personal/index.md now carries the photo and two sentences, both of them pointers rather than statements. This page is about me; for what the site is and how it gets built, see About. And What I hold is written down where it can be argued with. The affiliations are still being taken up and put down one at a time. The trailing clause of the second — “which is what it means for this to be a competence rather than a fact about me” — came off in his edit. The door routes and does not perform.
Off the page. Four profile drafts over two days: two written before the generator existed, one faceted after Gwern’s section structure, one written under the selfhood generator at 910 words. All rejected. Archived to 01 - Workbench/Profile drafts - archive 2026-08-19.md, which is gitignored, and the candidates deleted.
Why it failed, in one line. The page kept starting as an essay when it needed to start with facts, and he had no way to state the facts without them reading as bragging. The mechanism Gwern uses for that — bare nouns with no modifiers, a subsistence frame rather than an achievement one, dates instead of descriptions, and a closed door immediately under the credential list — was found late and never tested here.
What survived the day and is not on the personal page. The identity claim, recorded in memory rather than published: identity as an acquired capability rather than an assignment, learned in the Army where he was taken for what he could do instead of for who he was. The Selling Feeling section added to wiki/Concepts/The Two Meanings of Ego.md, joining credibility-as-refusal to selfhood-as-cut. And 02 - System/The Generator - Selfhood.md, marked unproven, which is the first write-act he has called markedly closer to what he wants.
Still unruled. personal/born-here.md and personal/2026-08-18-no-equipment-for-it.md are earlier versions of the rejected material, both still in the published section, both carrying type: personal. They render. Neither has been struck by name and neither should survive the ruling above.
