30-Day Challenge – Deep Processing

Week 1: Moving Beyond Recognition

Practice stopping at the point where something feels familiar and pushing for deeper understanding. Ask what the material actually means, how it connects to other ideas, and why it matters.

Week 2: Building Relationships

Focus on identifying connections between concepts. Look for relationships, contrasts, implications, and dependencies rather than treating ideas in isolation. Record these connections explicitly.

Week 3: Testing Depth Through Explanation

Explain concepts at multiple levels of abstraction. Practice teaching or articulating the material as if to someone with different levels of background knowledge. Notice where the explanation breaks down.

Week 4: Re-Processing Shallow Material

Identify areas where understanding remained surface-level and deliberately re-engage with them using deeper processing techniques. Compare the quality of encoding before and after the re-processing.
