Technique Training & Fundamentals

Technique Training and Fundamentals are the study methods you run on purpose, the floor under later harder work. Training is the mechanics of encoding and thinking, and fundamentals are the checkpoints that catch those mechanics failing as the work gets harder. The aim is to use them without constant self-coaching.

The four bundles

The methods live on the doors. This page does not teach them.

Inquiry-Based Learning is structured questions asked before consuming a source — not the education-literature sense of minimally guided discovery. If a passage needs a mark for what is already clear, what is not, and what to do next, that mark is a checkpoint on the same door.

Non-Linear Note-Making is the note-taking door that exists. The three variant names sometimes listed beside it have no pages.

Chunking as a Technique is how material is grouped so it can be held. Importance-Based Chunking is the same craft by what is worth grouping first.

Spaced Interleaved Retrieval, Multipass System, and Revision are the retrieval foundations. This page does not restate them.

Those methods turn the abstract goals on Dimensions of Learning into actions that can be repeated. Conscious competency — the methods becoming tools rather than things you coach yourself through — is the ordinary skill-acquisition target on Four Stages of Competence.

Techniques - Learning Craft is the parent craft hub: the working methods grouped by the part of learning they serve.

This layer is the floor. Later, harder work holds only if these run. The work itself happens on the doors.
