YouTube Immersion Account

A second YouTube identity used only for the language being learned trains the feed toward that language instead of a mixed English life. The point is not more discipline on a shared account. Compelling content — material that would be watched even without a study goal — is what the feed is for.

What the feed is for

Target language first. Clicks, searches, and subscriptions on this identity are in the language being learned. A mixed history mixes the signals; a separate watch-history keeps them apart.

Dialect or writing system when it matters. The feed can be trained toward a variety or a script. The page does not pick one.

Compelling, and worth returning to. Language immersion depends on repeated access to material that can hold attention. Attention is Important is why compelling content is not optional. How the identity is trained

Seed, subscribe, refuse contamination, prune. Watch enough to seed recommendations — “enough” is unmeasured. Subscribe to channels that are tolerable or actually compelling. Unrelated native-language content stays off this identity. Periodically click more of what works.

Vietnamese, as a worked case of dialect: tag channels Southern, Northern, mixed, or unknown when the difference is audible. No variety is assigned. Mandarin, as a worked case of writing system: tag a channel for simplified subtitles, traditional subtitles, audio-only listening, or character reading. Traditional is the vault target; the four uses travel without a personal memo.

A second identity is one more login, and a starved feed is worse than a mixed one for the first week. The price is a free identity plus the refusal to watch English on it. No paid YouTube feature is required. The quit signal: the account is being used for English, or it has become a homework folder. The checkable expectation: within a few sessions the homepage is mostly the target language, including something that would be watched anyway.
